Born in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, Gribble attended Harrow School of Art before completing his studies at Camberwell in the late 1940's.  Here he absorbed the teachings of Coldstream, Rogers, Gowing and Passmore whose influence is evident in his painting.
He pursued a career in art education while continuing to paint and exhibit full time.
His work is held in the collections of Manchester City Art Gallery and in the corporate collections of Ilminster, Salford and Middlesborough.
