Dalou was much
occupied with the theme of the nobility of the peasant

model was developed in full size form (6' 8") as part of
his scheme for the Monument au Travail, the plaster
being exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1902. Since
the figure was conceived at the end of Dalou's career
the bronzes were cast by Susse. |
